On the occasion of Techy for a Day, organized by CUTIPlan Ceibal interviewed our COO & Co-founder about why we need more women in technology, more specifically in the world of software, and how to get more girls to study STEM careers, that is, science, technology, engineering or mathematics.
There are 5 simple reasons why the software world needs to inspire women to become part of its working muscle.
Florencia clearly explains some of the main reasons why we need more women working in the software world:
- Simply a better product, richer, that takes into account the points of view also of women (half of the world’s population): “For us it is very important to have complementary teams because we create software and that software is going to be used by everyone. Software is invading the world and it is not good that this software is mostly created by men”.
- More job opportunities for women: “They never said no to me because I was a woman, on the contrary, with the industry’s need for women I think they have more opportunities than men, there are few women and companies need them. It is a matter of supply and demand”.
- A more complete, more complex, less biased product: “Complementary, diverse people ask different questions and that makes you create a software that looks at everyone”.
- Need for soft skills, not everything is about code cutting: “To manage teams, you need more soft skills than technical skills”.

Ok, you just read these 5 reasons and you don’t know what to do because you won’t study another career or simply, because you are a man. In that case, whenever you have the chance to give something to a girl… give her a toy that promotes S.T.E.M. The term STEM is an acronym for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.
